My responsabilities
Director of the Department of Mathematics of the University of Namur (in french: Facultés Universitaires Notre-Dame de la Paix) of Namur (Belgium), co-director of the Numerical Analysis Research Unit, director of the Transportation Research Group. Chairman elect (2010-2012) of the Mathematical Programming Society and SIAM fellow (class 2009).
My research interests
Smooth nonlinear optimization, with an emphasis on the algorithmic viewpoint, ranging from convergence theory to numerical considerations and software development ( LANCELOT, CUTEr, GALAHAD ). Practical and multidisciplinary applications of optimization techniques.
The analysis of transportation systems, including dynamic trafic modelling and demand estimation, as well as advanced behavioural models. Applications in regional, national and european strategic transportation planning.
Details are available of my publications and the various talks that I have given, as well as a course on advanced algorithms for nonlinear optimization.
My teaching
Algebra, numerical linear algebra, numerical optimization, software quality, transportation modelling.
